Every 2 years, Malta’s main chefs battle it out to win the highest accolades within the catering industry. The competition, that is spread over 4 days, is called Malta Kulinarja, and is organized by the Malta Chefs Society. Malta Kulinarja is held under the auspices of WACS, World Association of Chefs Societies, the leading culinary association worldwide. This competition is held during the Malta Catering Expo and typically runs daily from 0900hrs to 1800hrs with some 65 different themed competitions held for individuals or teams.
Guido Debono, current Chairperson of the Malta Chefs Society states:
“The aim of the Malta Chef’s Society is to stimulate greater interest and enhance higher standards in the culinary sector and to bring together chefs, and other professionals, working, studying, or otherwise active in the catering industry, with the purpose of helping them further their knowledge and skills, and, directly contribute towards the improvement in the quality and standards of the tourism industry in Malta and Gozo..”
The Malta Kulinarja is the perfect platform from which any aspiring chef can test his/her skills and capabilities under competition rules and regulations. This helps in honing one’s craft to work better under pressure, alone or in a team.
